Mahabalipuram: An experience

We had gone for our US Visa to Chennai from Mysore and thought that since we are going that far anyway we might as well spend some time in a resort in Mahabalipuram. So we had made bookings at the Radisson Temple Bay.
We utilised the services of a travel agent called Mr. Thyagarajan of Apporva Travels
(+ 91 44 24986389 Mob: +91 9040163702)who is a good travel agent with reasonable charges. It is a hour and a half drive to M'puram from Chennai. We saw an art village called Dakshin Chitra on the way to M'puram which is alive with actual weavers weaving the fabric and other artisans also doing their stuff. There are traditional houses built in the various traditions of South India.
Then we reached our GRT Temple Bay Resort. It is wonderful. Extremely Courteous Staff will make you feel like you've come to your mum's house! It has the longest Swimming pool in India and the second longest in Asia. (I've seen the longest one in Asia which is in Langkawi called the Asiania Resort). The resort itself was wonderful with a couple of restaurants and bars. Sipping on a Caipiroska and listening to the Sea waves perched on pool side chair in an otherwise silent place on a sultry humid afternoon not thinking of anything in particular is my ultimate idea of a good life! and I had it! Moksha achieved!
There are also some shacks on the beach-side which make the most delicious sea-food you've never had! The best on is called the Fisherman Restaurant owned by one Nagamuthu. Call him on 09677013104 and he'll tell you what is the freshest catch of the day. Since only he and is family form the staff of the restaurant it is advisable to call him and tell him how you'd want your pomfret or prawns cooked for dinner or lunch. He'll arrange for some chilled beer too, if need be.
If you don't know how to get there, call Raju on 09384622203 and he'll appear before you in his auto rickshaw and doesn't fleece!! He speaks fluent Hindi and Tamil. He'll also take you around the town to see the shore temple and other sight seeing places. It is better that you discuss the fare before you take the trip. Should not be more than a couple of hundred rupees!
If you are going to M'puram be advised that their season starts mid November and ends in April.
Happy Holidays.
